面临地震突袭,我们冷静应对!
THE South West Finance and Economic University in Chengdu was not too badly hit by Monday's catastrophic earthquake. Peng Chuan, a first year graduate student majoring in finance, passed an uneasy night.
He slept with some quilts on the playground until it started to rain at 4:00 in the morning. He had to go back to the dormitory to sleep. "I woke up every 40 minutes due to the noise of my pounding heart."
The next morning, Peng was able to stay in the dorm for a while. He and the other students quickly surfed the Internet to check the news.www.cooyu.net
"We're really concerned about what has happened in other parts of the province," he said. "We felt sad, and if possible we hope to donate clothing and food to the severely hit disaster areas."
Standing in the rain-swept playground, the students tried to cheer themselves up and rid themselves of exhaustion.
Calling home
In a demonstration of the strength and ingenuity of the human spirit when faced with a disaster, they modified huge advertising posters to use as makeshift umbrellas and tents.
They're calling or sending messages home to friends and relatives despite poor reception. "I will inform my parents I am safe as often as possible," Peng said. "So they won't worry about me too much. Also, I will try to keep track of their situation."
Now, Peng wants to record his thoughts and emotions on the Internet. "In an instant, I began to realize how vulnerable life can be in the face of such a force of nature," he said. "I want to cherish every single minute of the rest of my life. I'll tell my peers to value theirs in the same way."
He said he's happy that the torch relay will still come to Sichuan. "I have been looking forward to that, and I hope the relay won't be deterred for any reason."www.cooyu.net
